Abstract :

Precision livestock farming and smart farming represent revolutionary advancements in modern livestock farming, utilising advanced technologies to enhance productivity and viability. It utilises information technology tools to monitor and manage animals in real time, which can improve animal health, welfare, and productivity, contributing to the social, economic, and environmental sustainability of the farm. Wearable collar technologies have become integral to the advancement of precision livestock farming, and these technologies help to monitor the health and behaviour of animals. These devices include accelerometers, GPS receivers, microphones, gyroscopes, and magnetometers to provide non-invasive, real-time insights that improve animal health and welfare. To bring PLF technology further into field application, increased development and testing of PLF technologies is required in real farms to implement reliable solutions. Risks of increasing PLF usage include dependency on the technology, and there is an alteration in the human-animal relationship and changes in the public’s perception of dairy farming. Keywords: Precision livestock farming, biosensors, veterinary applications, sensor technology, early diagnosis, virtual fencing system.
